“Keeping Stomach Illness Out of Rigolet”: A community-based health promotion video

 

What is the purpose of the video?

It is very important for public health programs and interventions to be culturally relevant and appropriate. New tools and methods that are locally relevant to the specific population are needed to help decrease burdens of illness. For instance the community of Rigolet has higher rates of acute gastrointestinal illness than other communities across southern Canada. In order to share information effectively, the tool used to share the information must be relevant and culturally appropriate. Rigolet is an Inuit community and so finding a tool that is relevant to their oral and visual culture is important.

Why the whiteboard video?

The whiteboard video is a whiteboard animation with a narrative audio. It uses both oral and visual which can reflect the oral/visual culture of Inuit. Here are two examples of whiteboard videos:
